Yet these extraordinary systems are being fundamentally transformed by hydropower development, with consequences that will reverberate for generations. Hydropolitics in the Mekong offers a critical analysis of how this transformation is unfolding across the region.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Daphina Misiedjan joined the KITLV Management Team in July 2026. In addition, Daphina has been appointed as a Senior Researcher at KITLV. Her current research focuses on offshore oil developments in Suriname and their human rights implications, climate justice in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and environmental justice in Rotterdam.

Three researchers receive KNAW grant

Last summer, Ramona Negrón and Sander van der Horst received funding through the new travel grant programme of the KNAW Humanities Fund, which supports and promotes research in the humanities. Yvette Ruzibiza received a € 10,000 bursary from the KNAW Trailblazers Fund, which supports young first-generation scholars in taking the next step in their academic careers.
